The Making of DNLA
Every Detail. Considered.
DNLA is built on a simple ethos—To live with heart and create with vision. The belief that the way something is made matters as much as the way it looks and feels. From the first pattern to the final stitch, every decision is deliberate.
The Fabric
Every DNLA piece begins with fabric that meets the highest standard of safety and integrity. Our cotton sateen is 100% OEKO-TEX certified — free from harmful substances and kind to the skin that wears it. Inner linings are crafted from 100% organic cotton, enzyme washed for an exceptionally soft, lived-in feel from the very first wear.
The Labels. The Tags. The Details.
Even the smallest details are considered. Silk labels are sewn into the side seam — not the back of the neck — so there is nothing to scratch, nothing to irritate, nothing to remind you it's there. For anyone with sensitive skin, this is intentional. The multiway top is designed to be worn back to front, and a label at the back of the neck would interrupt that experience entirely. Every detail serves the wearer.
Swing tags are printed on recycled paper with water-based inks — fully biodegradable, minimal impact. Thank you cards are printed on 100% recycled consumer waste paper with the same inks, designed to return to the earth as quietly as they arrived. Even our packaging is chosen with the least possible impact in mind — and we will always be looking for ways to do better.
The Pattern. The Marker. The Cut.
Patterns are thoughtfully made, digitised and carefully placed onto fabric markers — a process designed to maximise every centimetre of the fabric roll and leave as little waste as possible. The fabric is then laser cut with precision, ensuring clean edges, consistent results, and a level of accuracy that hand cutting simply cannot achieve. Nothing is wasted by accident. Everything is placed with purpose.
Made Locally. Made by Hand.
DNLA is proudly manufactured in Western Australia — in-house and through our trusted local manufacturer Textile Lab. This hands-on approach means we are present at every stage of production, able to refine, improve, and ensure that the quality of each piece meets our standard before it ever reaches you. Local manufacturing means shorter supply chains, greater transparency, and a direct relationship with the wonderful people who work hard to bring each garment to life to be loved and lived in by you.
Made to Order. Made for Less Waste.
DNLA operates on a made-to-order model. Meaning your piece is created for you, when you order it. No overproduction. No excess stock sitting in a warehouse. No guessing. This is slow fashion in its truest form, a considered response to an industry that produces too much, too fast. Every order placed is a garment that needed to exist.
A Circular System.
Fabric remnants are never discarded. Off-cuts are kept, catalogued, and reintegrated into our process wherever possible. A quiet, ongoing commitment to a circular system that we continue to refine. Where we notice gaps, we improve. Every small, deliberate choice matters. Waste reduction is not a destination — it is a practice.
Sewn With Love.
Every garment is stitched with intention. Soft, considered, and built to last. The way it feels in your hands is a reflection of the process behind it. Slow, thoughtful, and made to be worn for a long time.
This is DNLA. This is how it's made.
